Content Management System (CMS) Web Hosting

Websites built on University-supported platforms such as Voices and Sitecore are hosted and maintained by IT Services for no additional cost.

For websites that are built by vendors on other CMS platforms, campus units should work with their vendor to determine an external hosting solution that will work best for their project. At this time, the University has no enterprise agreements for external hosting companies, and units are able to use their preferred hosting service as long as it is compliant with UChicago security and maintenance standards

Static Web Hosting Environment

A static website is one which does not make use of any database or dynamic content and is written manually in HTML versus leveraging a content management system (CMS). Hosting for static websites is provided at no charge.

Maintenance and Security

Website owners are responsible for ensuring the website's content management system (CMS) and hosting platform are supported and maintained according to University website security policies. Website maintenance often includes CMS updates, plugin and module updates, server updates, and security patches. UChicago website owners bear responsibility for keeping websites updated and secure, regardless of whether a vendor hosts or develops the website.

Websites built on University-supported platforms (Voices and Sitecore) are centrally maintained by IT Services.

For vendor-built website projects, website owners must ensure the vendor will provide ongoing maintenance and support, especially for addressing security vulnerabilities and patching the CMS as required. Vendor support and maintenance agreements should occur as part of the Procurement process for new websites.
